In order to improve my skills and versatility with X-Particles, I decided to use advection as the common element between different types of simulations. So I ended up doing a lot of tests using Octane as the main render, what contributed to an improvement of my pipeline between these two programs.

In this simulation I used advection in combination with the granular solver.
ExplosiaFx drove the "collapse" effect of the object constrained through particle groups.

The different cubes (particles) were driven by the movement of the explosion, transferred through advection.  

The huge number of particles (small discs) activated through advection almost creates a viscous looked like movement. The same container also drives the small grains to complement the composition.

The main objective of this personal project was to improve my skills with X-Particles and Octane. Each approach represents a different interpretation of  the use of advection. In my opinion If you want to improve your skills the best way to do that is through active learning.

During this learning process you also discover yourself and you sharpen your taste every time you finish a piece. You grow little by little after each exploration. Regarding the tools, besides the one's mentioned before, I used Cinema 4D and Nuke to add some extra details like depth and motion blur.
